summer daze...

In my recent memory, this has been the best summer in years...

the weather in the Pacific NW has been stellar...its the kind of enticement that lures tourists to visit...and to consider moving here...little do they know of the grayness that January can bring...

But it is July and the skies have been blue and sunny...and the weather warm but not hot...

I've not been very motivated to blog this summer...its hard to stay indoors...I want to soak up enough sun to last through those winter grays...taking our month long trip reminded me of summers long ago...freed from the shackles of school, summer days never seemed long enough to fill with all the adventure of the outdoors...its been hard to get back into a regular routine...

and when the breeze blows through the open windows, it beckons me to do nothing more than enjoy the whisper of wind...

I'm not much of a gardener but I always plant the flower box outside my kitchen window...back in May, as I prepared to plant I discovered that perhaps the recycled metal trough had served its purpose...and it was time for a new window box. Pumped by my prowess of remodeling my workshop studio, I figured that I would build a new box...

A trio of plants filled the box with color and texture...

As the weeks passed, the blooms have faded and shriveled (being left alone for a month with little attention will do that!) but I've been tending to it...and new life is re-emerging from the refreshed greens...ready to give one last push...stretching out the warmth of summer just a bit longer...

Joining the group over at kim klassen's Texture Tuesday...
all of my flower photos were edited with kk texture elevate...

  1. So nice to read that you are enjoying the outdoor summertime. I agree, when winters are long, get out and stay outside as much as possible. I LOVE the open window view and your flower box!

  2. Kudos to you for enjoying the outdoors this summer! And double kudos for your little flower box! When my summer flowers fade, I'm always reminded that fall flowers will be just around the corner.

  12. That view into your kitchen made me feel wistful. I just love open windows and summer breeze . . . and sitting at a friend's kitchen table, sharing coffee or tea, and conversation. Your blog posts are like letters from home as you share your thoughts and projects and inspirations. I am happy for you that you had a summer adventure - untethered. And, I am so impressed by your building skills! A beautiful window box, a beautiful view, and a beautiful person.

  13. Hi Amy, It sounds like your summer is wonderful. No wonder that you rather stay outside than inside. My flowers don't look so good anymore either. I guess they would have like some fertilizer some months ago. At least my two snap dragons start to bloom again.
    Have a great day!
    Hugs,
    Julia

  14. Amy, it has been a wonderful summer on the Island too. Lot's of heat and sunshine. My garden has needed watering and deadheading, which are the two jobs I enjoy doing early in the morning. Your window box is beautiful and has enough quirkiness to it to be adorable too! I love your "get to it" attitude!
    Happy August to you! xo

  15. Great images. I would love your weather right now here in Southern CA. It's hot and humid. However, I like our winters better. LOL

  17. Great job on the window box. Once you get out of the habit of blogging it is so hard to get back to it. This summer has been perfect here in Michigan too. I don't like hot or humid weather, so thankfully there has been very little of that.
