From the outside in

There seems to be a heightened frenzy to the holidays this year...or maybe its just me...everything seems so rushed!

So I'm keeping my holiday decorating low key...my plan is to use what I already have but combine the textures and tones with the materials that have inspired me (seen here) to create a holiday spirit.

In years past, I would have hung my twig wreath with the sage green satin ribbon on the door and called it good...this year, I had a different plan...

I snipped some greenery from the yard...and bound it together with a little copper wire to hold it tight...

pulled out a length of red velvet ribbon from my suitcase filled with ribbon remnants...and tied on the greenery and the ribbon...

to a star made from a carpenter's ruler...

The bendable hinges of the ruler make it easy to create the star...I just bent it into the shape and had two sections remaining that met together at the top where I drilled a hole through the ruler to thread a piece of red twine for hanging...

A plain ordinary nail just didn't seem right for hanging...so I fished out a vintage glass knob from my hardware stash...screwed the knob into the door...and hung the holiday star...

It's the perfect junk holiday welcome!

where there is sure to be lots of perfect junk holiday ideas...

worth a look...
